Equipment Needed
- Measuring stick or ruler
- Flat surface to lie on
How to Perform the Test
- Lie face down on a flat surface with arms extended overhead.
- Hold a measuring stick or ruler with both hands, palms facing each other.
- Keeping your chin on the floor and arms straight, raise your arms as high as possible.
- Have a partner measure the vertical distance from the floor to the bottom of the stick.
- Perform three attempts and record the best result.
Tips for Best Results
- Warm up your shoulders before the test with gentle arm circles and stretches.
- Keep your chin on the ground throughout the test.
- Don't bend your elbows during the movement.
- Move smoothly without jerking or bouncing.
- Regular shoulder stretching can improve your results over time.
Interpreting Your Results
Your shoulder elevation distance is compared to normative data based on age and gender. Greater elevation indicates better shoulder flexibility and mobility, which is important for overhead sports and injury prevention.
