Wall Toss Test
The Wall Toss Test measures hand-eye coordination and reaction time by counting how many times you can catch a ball thrown against a wall in a set time period.
What This Test Measures
This test measures your hand-eye coordination, reaction time, and the ability to respond to a moving object by repeatedly catching a ball off a wall.
Equipment Needed
- A tennis ball
- A smooth, flat wall
- Marking tape for a throwing line (2m from wall)
- Stopwatch or timer
How to Perform the Test
- Stand 2 meters from a smooth wall behind the marked line.
- Hold a tennis ball in your preferred hand.
- Start the timer and throw the ball underhand against the wall with one hand.
- Catch the ball with the opposite hand after it bounces off the wall.
- Immediately throw it back with the catching hand and catch with the other.
- Continue alternating hands for 30 seconds.
- Count the total number of successful catches.
- Perform two or three trials and record the best result.
Tips for Best Results
- Aim for a consistent spot on the wall at about chest height.
- Keep your eyes on the ball at all times.
- Stay on the balls of your feet for quicker reactions.
- Develop a rhythm between throws and catches.
- Practice with both hands to improve coordination on your weaker side.
Interpreting Your Results
Your score is the total number of successful catches in 30 seconds. More catches indicate better hand-eye coordination and reaction time. This test is particularly relevant for sports requiring quick hand movements and object tracking.
