How to administer

  1. 1Mark a one-mile course (4 laps of a 400m track) with a clear start/finish.
  2. 2Brief students on pacing — encourage even splits, not a sprint start.
  3. 3Start the class together; record finish time as the chest crosses the line.
  4. 4Cool-down walk for at least 3 minutes after.

Equipment

  • 400m track or measured course
  • Stopwatch (or app timer)
  • Cones for the start

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Cutting corners on inside lanes — keep students in lane 1 or 2.
  • Stopping the clock on the wrong runner in a mass-start scenario.
  • Skipping the warm-up; 5 minutes of mobility before reduces injury risk.
